My 'Why'

Updated: Aug 8, 2022

It’s a funny thing, blogging. Though I don’t consider myself a bad writer, I would not say my words flow effortlessly onto paper in perfect format either.

I sit in my desk chair staring at a white screen, and blank out more often than not. Even with the interesting writing topics that crowd my mind, from my life and relationships to sweets; when I go to write, the stories don't stream out.

So why did I even think about blogging?

A Digital Home

In the chance you didn't catch it from the intro, and this is going to sound super meta, this blog entry will be about me blogging. Though I only have a handful of personal posts under my belt at the moment, I actually began this blog three years ago.

THREE years ago!!? I know, what have I been doing all this time!

The real story is that in one month I got super motivated, and I started my @tiffbsweet Instagram account. I took on the challenge of posting a single photo a day for one hundred days.

In doing so I exhausted myself, picking quantity over quality. This exhaustion led me to re-evaluate and learn about food photography; ultimately leaving me posting less, but sharing ones that were higher-quality. This content reflected not only in the quality of photographs, but also in the captions.

Still, I found myself wanting to indulge in the details of what I was photographing; from the chef stories to the history of ingredients, to fun food holidays and background anecdotes of why I got inspired to make something. I soon realized my words could go beyond a caption; to live in a more substantial, personalized home. Thus my blog was born!

Defibrillation

In my perfectionist ways, I bit off more than I could chew in the beginning.

I had to re-learn some coding, stuff that I haven't done since the late 90’s! But once I had that refresher, I opened myself up to a world of possibilities with more updated website building tools.

This went on and on as I hopped in and out of rabbit holes. Within the first two months I posted three separate, beautifully photographed recipes, complete with a blog post. I beamed with pride… only to then lose gas and move them into my “past projects” life folder.

In the meantime, I had a baby or two! Aaand a bunch of other stuff that I won’t get into for now. Anyway, fast forward to December 2021. I realized I had paid for an annual plan on my web hosting service, and had not touched it in over two years.

I logged in with intentions to cancel the subscription, and began clicking through the BTS pages that were not yet published: a couple of food blurbs, pages of recipes, and galleries of food media.

My blogger heart started to thump… my inner voice saying, “wait, you can do this, there is so much you wanted to share”.

A World of Sweets Out There

Though ‘longer captions’ may have sparked this desire to blog, there are so many other reasons I began three years ago.

One of the biggest is my desire to inspire others. I have always felt like a source of information for friends and family in terms of food. Many people often ask me where the best place for coffee is, or what kind of cake they should choose for their loved ones. In these times, I feel validated, and my spark to share is reignited!

Another big reason I began writing years ago was for the joy I gain from this community. I innately love people, and I love digging into why they do what they do. I want to know what inspires them, what drives them, what has shaped them to be who they are. I love standing on the sidelines, cheering on other chefs and home bakers!

This world of sweets has opened me up to many who share in a mutual love for food. Through that, I have met so many wonderful people with the most interesting stories. Here, I hope to feature chefs that also inspire me! I hope to showcase their goods, and share their 'whys'.

Over the years, I have found that when you love something, it seeps into every part of your life. For myself, and so many others, that is desserts. So here, I hope to create a space to encourage and inspire other bakers and sweet-enthusiasts to explore the dessert world as we add to this steadily growing art.

Furthermore, A World of Possibilities

I also hope this blog feeds my soul as well, to continue down this path of self-employment. I have found my passion in food. Baking is my art, and this blog encourages me practice and hone this craft.

In addition, my two boys are my motivation. In taking my passion and turning it into a legitimate business, I hope my sons will see that they can achieve anything they set their minds to. I want them to see the endless possibilities that life on their own terms can offer, and never ever limit themselves!

Dessert Lovers Unite!

One of my final reasons behind building this blog was to create a community; to find my sweets-loving, dessert-photographing, never settling for less than

sweet, tribe!

I want to connect people and businesses with each other, or find connections we never knew existed; and all the while getting excited for the sake of food!

This is my space to grow,

to share,

to learn,

and to inspire.

I am really happy you're here, and I hope you stick around for the ride!
