About me
Hi, my name is Tiffany Balitang. I am a chef/owner & entrepreneur, loving military wife, and proud mother of two sweet boys. It’s been a long road to get to where I’m at, switching careers as a health educator and therapist to forego homebaking and step into the world of full-time professional pastry. It was not as romantic as my young self thought, and soon I dreamt of becoming my own boss, tailoring my sweets and services to my customers. At the same time, life happened and I found myself living in Japan, married to an amazing husband in the US Navy. There, I fell in love with the Japanese taste for desserts: they have a huge respect for French techniques; incorporate traditional, native flavors; and embrace seasonality with their ingredients. After our Japan tour was over, we moved back to our hometown of sunny San Diego and I attended the San Diego Culinary Institute. Here I earned my Advanced Degree in Pastry under 4th generation French Chef Yves Fornier. During my externship at the renowned Ocean Beach Cuban bakery, Azucar, I found that I was pregnant with my first son. I retreated back into homebaking to spend time with my growing family, as the military moved us to Las Vegas. There, I missed the freshness of California produce, but learned the resourcefulness & hustle of the desert city. Here, I absorbed how many cultures, like Hawaiian & Thai, can put their stamp on the culinary scene wherever they go. I began to experiment with flavors from my Filipino-American background, using ingredients and flavors I grew up with all over Southern California. Now the military has moved us back home again to San Diego for good. With another son toddling at my knees, I am ready to share my unique creations with this vibrant and diverse South Bay community. This is what Tiff B Sweet is all about, living that sweet life!
